Cardiology
Klinik Hirslanden offers a comprehensive range of diagnostics, both non-invasive and invasive, and of therapeutic and surgical procedures. Treatments range from medicinal to dilatations of the coronary vessels, implantation of vascular prostheses, bypass operations after a cardiac infarction (or for its prevention) to surgical reconstruction and implantation of heart valves.
More than 2,000 diagnostic cardiac catheterisations, approximately 800 percutaneous balloon dilatations and about 800 open heart operations are performed annually.
These include the latest Niobe® magnetically guided catheterisation. Catheters are inserted through veins in the groin and until recently they could only be positioned using guide wires.
Now the Niobe® system enables a computer to navigate the catheter magnetically under control of the surgeon until positioned correctly in the chambers of the heart.

Orthopaedics
The Movement Clinic is concerned with all aspects of the human movement apparatus: bones, joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments. Changes in these may be congenital or the result of disease or 'wear and tear', or may arise from accidental injuries.
Klinik Hirslanden offers a broad range of orthopaedic procedures. Specialists in pain therapy, neurosurgery, rheumatology, rehabilitation, neurology and internal medicine work together to deliver the best solution to your problem.
Ultramodern navigation systems are used in orthopaedic surgery, which assist the surgeon from the planning to the operation.
Precise three-dimensional bone models are developed, e.g. during the implantation of hip and knee total endoprostheses. These enable the surgeons to place implants more precisely, with improved outcome for the patient.

General Oncology and Haematology
Klinik Hirslanden is among the leading providers in the field of oncology and haematology in Europe. It offers an outstanding spectrum of treatments using the most modern technology and the best medical infrastructure.
In medical oncology chemotherapy as well as hormonal or immunotherapies are used. In order to minimise side effects more effectively regular specialist examinations during and immediately after therapy are essential.
In surgery minimally invasive operation technologies are used wherever possible. The advantages are less pain, quicker mobility, shorter rehabilitation and minimal scar formation.
For urology especially Klinik Hirslanden has invested in da Vinci® minimally invasive robotic surgery. The word 'robotic' is commonly used but 'telemanipulation' is a more accurate term.
This system transfers the hand movements of the surgeon to the instruments that have been inserted through small incisions in the abdomen. The surgeon then controls the movements via a three-dimensional view with a one to ten times magnification.
