South Asia's largest cancer centre network
HealthCare Global Enterprises Ltd. is South Asia's largest cancer care provider with a nationwide network of centres.
In 1989 Dr. Ajai Kumar along with four other oncologists started the first comprehensive cancer centre in India, the Bangalore Institute of Oncology (BIO). This offers a full suite of oncology services.
To cater for growing demand, the BIO Specialty Centre was added, with 60 medical oncology beds, a tertiary care ICU, a bone marrow transplant unit and a PET-CT unit.
In 2002, Health Care Global Enterprises was founded, including the Curie Centre of Oncology and today, HCG Enterprises is a successful doctor-led initiative, with over 350 doctors and 1150 beds.
CyberKnife® treatment in Bangalore, India
In February 2009 HCG opened its new CyberKnife Centre in Bangalore, which is now available to international patients through our on-line enquiry service.
As tumours grow larger they can also become less sharply defined, which makes them less amenable to the precise, high power beams of CyberKnife radiosurgery.
HCG therefore employs the latest generation of CyberKnife equipment as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with radiotherapy, using the Siemens Artiste image guided system.
CyberKnife inventor, Dr John Adler with Dr Ajai Kumar
Often referred to as radiotherapy with 'CT-on-rails', this takes real-time CT images and compares them with the CT image used in pre-treatment planning to track the tumour and deliver more accurate radiation doses, depending on the patient's condition.
The Artiste system allows for treatment of even very large patients, up to 250Kg and allows shorter treatment sessions, which makes treatmetns more comfortable for patients.
When you enquire for CyberKnife treatment in Bangalore your case will automatically be considered also for a range of possible treatment oprions, and they will advise you of they consider that one of these is more appropriate for your case.
HCG CyberKnife specialists collaborate with the patient to devise a treatment that best suits the patient's needs. The team may include Radiation Oncologists, Speciality Surgeons, Radiologists, Medical Physicists and Diagnostic and Therapy Technologists.
PET/CT (Positron Emission Tomography) and Medical Cyclotron
HCG's state of the art PET CT scanner is used for diagnosis, to asses tumour aggressiveness, to monitor success of therapy, for early detection of any recurrent tumors, to provide a whole-body survey for cancer that may have spread, to identify benign and malignant growths and for radioguided surgery and radiotherapy.
HCG has its own medical cyclotron facility, the only such facility in India, providing very high quality isotope production to meet US FDA and EU standards.
The cycltron and laboratory produce a variety of PET-Traces (radioactive molecules), which are injected intravenously and detected with the PET scanner. The combination of PET and CT scanning, which are carried out together in a 20 minute procedure for a whole body scan, produces a detailed picture of the internal anatomy that rveals the locatiomn, size and shape of abnormal cancerous growths
It is also used for heart disease and associated surgery planning and for brain disorders, such as early diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease.
Today HCG treats more than 30,000 patients each year and its doctors specialise in organ-preserving surgery. HCG's Centre for Breast Health is headed by a female cancer specialist and HCG's treatments are recognised by many international health insurance companies.
Advanced molecular diagnosis
For patients with neuroendocrine tumours, HCG Bangalore is one of only a handful of centres worldwide to offer 'Dotatoc' treatment. This is a developing area of in cancer therapy and the centre will provide more details in appropriate cases.
